ENGAGE

ENGAGE is an international campaign designed to increase the impact of employee volunteering by bringing companies together to take action in the community. The programme objective is to build the aspirations of young people and show them the opportunities that are available for further education and employment.   The ENGAGE Journey of Opportunity Programme is a 6 month mentoring programme comprising various activities specifically designed to make a positive impact on the lives of aspiring young people from some of the poorest areas of Hong Kong. It provides a platform for volunteers from the Hong Kong business community to mentor youth aged 14 to 16 from two disadvantaged areas (Sham Shui Po and Tin Shui Wai) in Hong Kong with a focus on helping them build life and career skills. Launched by Community Business in 2008, the programme is an enormous success and has deepened its impact on the Hong Kong community, year on year. Step Up!

Step UP! enables businesses to reach out to those who have the most to lose and gain – young adults at the risk of becoming or already disengaged from education, employment or training. The program works with disadvantaged students who face multiple barriers to entering the workforce – whether this be through lack of education, limited work options, low self-esteem or disability and provides them with a ‘step up’ into gaining employment and the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty. A yearlong program for young adults aged 18-25, Step UP! provides: Job Skills Training, Life Skills Training, Career Training, Work Placements, Job Coach and a Drop-In Center. Businesses provide youths with expertise in their own offices – from customer service to office management. Youths receive first-hand experience of what it is like to work in a professional setting. The inaugural program will run in the Fall of 2013. For more information contact Robin Bishop, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility.
